Almost seven days ago, it transpired that the MP of the opposition party Movement for Rights and Freedoms and publisher of Telegraph Media Delyan Peevski is on the voting list of the Movement and will run for MEP at the end of this month. For years, the MP has been winning the elections in which he participated. Voters know him well, know that he is as good as his word and see that he is fighting the oligarchic shadows in Bulgaria – he forestalls their shady deals and the attempts to foil his legislative initiatives, whereas his media outlets expose the affairs of the indicted bosses.

And, as long as people see it, the oligarchs see it, too. And the oligarchs really hate it when their criminal dealings are brought to light. That is why this week they sounded the assembly for all their pawns and are doing their utmost trying to lower the boom on Peevski on his way to Brussels.
For the whole week running, the Fake News Factory has been spewing out media manipulations targeting the lawmaker – first of all they warmed up the fake refuted five years ago and tried to push through the worn-out figments that Peevski is bound with the Russians (See here). However, no one rose to this bait. Because any person of reason would figure out that Peevski was a teenager when communism collapsed in Bulgaria and re-distribution of the national pie started. We won’t even mention the privatisation and its masters, like Kostov and Prokopiev.
Since this attempt at an onslaught failed, the oligarchs came to think about their favourite trick – smearing campaigns against their foes and lobbyism for the behind-the-scenes clique (See here and here). As if the fakes were not enough claiming that Peevski peddled influence over the cadre policy in the judicial system and the attempts of the State Security informer to make MEPs admit that they do not want him in Brussels. A new fiasco followed.
However, the oligarchy always has a Plan B. Or, in our case, Boets NGO. Readily available. The NGO (which just loves to publish photos featuring Tsvetan Vassilev in Belgrade and often bows to the oligarchs) this time again found a way to cater to their backstage mentors’ needs. Blowing a whistle that Peevski allegedly was not eligible for MEP which CEC has refuted at once (See here ). It turned out that the mercenaries of the fugitive banker cannot read. And they are not the only pawns of the backstage grandmasters who set such an example. But, what’s to be done – our desires do not always agree with our potential.
This week is over. There are three weeks left before the Euro vote. We’ll just wait and see what the oligarchs have up a sleeve to prevent Peevski from running for MEP.
Bavaria backs Bulgaria's Schengen accession
"We support Bulgaria for Schengen," Bavarian Minister President Markus Soeder told a news conference after a one-to-one session with Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov at the Council of Ministers here on Thursday. In his opinion, Bulgaria guards Europe's external borders remarkably and has achieved a lot for the European Union. Soeder is visiting Bulgaria at Borissov's invitation. They discussed bilateral cooperation in home affairs, security, economy and finance, as well as other issues on the European agenda (See here).
Sofia forum discusses potential of East European market for LNG
A two-day forum on the business potential of the East European markets for liquefied natural gas (LNG) opened in Sofia on Monday. The forum is co-organised by the Washington-based Institute for Energy Research and the Centre for Balkan and Black Sea Studies. The first sod for the gas interconnector with Greece will be turned around May 20, Prime Minister Boyko Borissov told the press as he emerged from a meeting with the president of the Institute of Energy Research, Top Pyle, and Deputy PM Tomislav Donchev, held on the sidelines of the LNG forum (See here).
